Assignment:  Download and read, link -- "The Image World" (password:  chromogenic).  Write a short 1-2 page response.  What are some of Sontag's points about photography's role in our culture (in your own words)?

This essay was published in 1977.  While it still holds many relevant points and statements, some of it is woefully out of date.  How would you update some of Sontag's observations on photography, taking into account popular uses of digital photography?  Do we have an existing "ecology of images" or do you see a need for one?  How is our contemporary culture intertwined with making and consuming images?
